Garmin just bought TrainingPeaks. What does that mean for your coaching business?

Announced July 22, 2026. Nobody knows what changes next, but the questions are worth asking now.

The honest answer? Nobody knows, not even Garmin

Garmin's press release says all the right things. "Empowering coaches and athletes." "Shared mission." But the truth is, acquisitions rarely play out the way anyone intends. The people making the deal have genuine intentions. What actually happens over the following years tends to follow incentives, not intentions. And Garmin's incentives are built around selling hardware to athletes, not running software for coaches.

That's not cynicism. It's just how organisations work. And it's worth asking the questions now, before the answers become obvious:

  • 🔌 Will non-Garmin devices still sync?

Your athletes use Wahoo, Polar, COROS, Suunto. TrainingPeaks worked because it was device-neutral. Garmin now owns the platform and they sell the competing hardware. When Garmin acquired FirstBeat, 3rd-party licensing quietly disappeared over time.

  • 💰 Will pricing change?

Garmin's stated goal is to make their Connect+ subscription more valuable. Bundling TrainingPeaks into a new tier is an obvious move, one that could change what you pay, how you pay, and what you actually get.

  • 🛠️ Will the platform keep improving?

Garmin has a track record of running acquisitions as-is. Tacx, DeLorme, inReach: all kept largely standalone, with minimal new features for years. TrainingPeaks has been stable precisely because it was focused. That focus now has to compete with Garmin's broader hardware priorities.

  • 👥 Will pricing change?

Garmin is a hardware company that sells to athletes. Coaches are valuable to Garmin only insofar as they drive athletes toward Garmin devices. That's a different relationship than the one you had with a coach-focused software company.

Training Tilt was built for coaches, and only coaches

We don't sell to athletes. We don't have a hardware line. We don't have shareholders pushing us toward ad revenue or subscription tiers designed around device sales.

We're a small, self-funded team that has been profitable since 2014 by doing one thing: helping endurance coaches run better businesses. Coaching tools, athlete management, payments, branding, content, all in one place, built specifically for the way coaches work.

We're not trying to replace TrainingPeaks for every coach. But if you're a coach who values device neutrality, a platform that puts your business first, and a team you can actually talk to, we think it's worth 20 minutes of your time to see if we're a fit.

A migration offer for TrainingPeaks coaches

We did this when Today's Plan shut down in 2024, and we'll do it again. If you decide to move, we want that process to be as low-friction as possible.

What we're offering

  • Free supported migration. We'll help you import your workout library, athlete data, and training history from TrainingPeaks. No spreadsheets, no manual re-entry.
  • 8 week free trial. Enough time to run Training Tilt and TrainingPeaks side by side, move athletes across at your own pace, and make a calm decision with no pressure.
  • 1-on-1 onboarding call. A personal walkthrough with someone who understands coaching platforms, not a generic helpdesk ticket.
  • Device neutral, by design. Training Tilt syncs with Garmin, Wahoo, Polar, COROS, Suunto, Zwift, and Strava. Whatever devices your athletes use today, they keep using them.

How the move works

Switching coaching platforms feels like a big deal. Here's how we make it manageable.

1

Start a free trial or book a demo

No commitment. Explore the platform, see how it fits your workflow, and ask every question you have before moving anything.

2

Import your workout library

We have a dedicated import tool built for this. You export from TrainingPeaks, we bring it in. No reformatting, no rebuilding from scratch.

3

Bring your athletes across

Invite your athletes to your Training Tilt platform. We walk you through the process, and your athletes get a branded experience from day one.

4

Run both in parallel until you're ready

You don't have to flip a switch. Most coaches run both platforms in parallel, move athletes across at their own pace, and cancel TrainingPeaks when they're comfortable. The 8 week trial gives you time to do it right.

A note from Cam

I want to be straight with you.

I'm not here to tell you TrainingPeaks is finished or that Garmin will definitely make things worse. Garmin makes good hardware, and for all we know they'll invest heavily in the platform and everything stays great.

But I know from running a coaching software business for 12 years that uncertainty is genuinely disruptive. It's hard to confidently build your business on a platform when you don't know whether the pricing model is about to change, whether your non-Garmin athletes will still be able to sync, or whether the features you rely on will be prioritised by a company that primarily cares about selling watches.

We've been here before. When Today's Plan shut down in 2024, we moved fast to help coaches find a home. We built the import tools, got on calls, and helped people move without losing their work. We'll do the same here.

If you're feeling uncertain and want to explore your options, even just to understand what else is out there, I'd love to talk. No hard sell. If Training Tilt isn't the right fit, I'll tell you that too.
